Josh Allen threw three touchdown passes as the Buffalo Bills extended their dominance over the spiraling Miami Dolphins in a 31-21 home win on Thursday Night Football at Highmark Stadium in Orchard Park, New York.
Bills linebacker Terrel Bernard intercepted Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa with just over three minutes left, and Miami threatening to tie the score to help secure the win.
“It’s honestly something that we have seen on tape,” the middle linebacker said, crediting his position coach, Al Holcomb for showing film of similar plays this past week. “That’s one of their top quick-game concepts. We’re in a three-deep zone and I just saw it and broke on it. So yeah, that’s pretty much it.”

Rookie defensive tackle Deone Walker was filling in for the veteran Ed Oliver and applied pressure on Tua, disrupting the pass that Bernard intercepted.
Allen’s touchdown passes include a go-ahead 15-yarder to Khalil Shakir with 7:17 left in the game. James Cook also scored on a 2-yard run and totaled 108 yards rushing. He becomes the first player to reach the 100-yard mark against the Dolphins in the last 36 games. Buffalo has now won its last 14 of 15 games against Miami, including seven in a row, including the playoffs.
“Good win, never easy,” coach Sean McDermott said of what was a one-score outing before Matt Prater hit a 48-yard field goal with 22 seconds left.

Several Dolphins mistakes negated a competitive night for Miami, which now opens the season 0-3 for the first time in six years. Those miscues and the winless record will further the discussion of coach Mike McDaniel’s job security.
“I’m never proud of a loss. We came here to win, and I refuse to take moral victories as the head coach of the Miami Dolphins,” McDaniel said. “It wasn’t good enough, so that’s where I’m at.”
McDaniel’s Dolphins reached the playoffs in his first two seasons at the helm, but he’s now 8-13 since a Wild Card loss to the Chiefs in 2023. Tua’s interception was the game’s only turnover and came with the Dolphins down 28-21 with a 1st-and-10 at the Bills’ 21. Tua now has 10 interceptions in 10 games against Buffalo.
Up next, Miami will host the New York Jets on Monday Night Football on Sept. 29.
