The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have started the season 2-0 and have an opportunity to be 3-0 for the first time since 2005.
But it’ll take a win over the New York Jets on Sunday in the Bucs’ home opener to accomplish that. Tampa Bay is dealing with a number of injuries early in the season, and after a Week 2 win at Houston, that list got longer.
First-round rookie wideout Emeka Egbuka, who is tied for the league lead with three touchdown receptions, missed two days of practice this week with a groin and hip situation and was limited on Friday. Coach Todd Bowles updated the media after Friday’s practice.

“He’s questionable right now,” Bowles said. “We’ll see on Sunday morning. We gotta see how he’s feeling after today.”
If Egbuka can’t go, Ryan Miller will have a bigger part in the offense. The former UDFA scored the first touchdown for Tampa Bay on Monday night against the Texans. It will also likely mean that veteran Sterling Shepard, rookie Tez Johnson and Kam Johnson will see increased playing time.
“You are not always getting those first-team reps, but you just have to know your assignment — know what you are doing — and you have to be ready to go at any point at any time in the game, so you just have to be ready,” Miller said of the injury situation.
Starting right guard Cody Mauch and starting right tackle Luke Goedeke were both placed on injured reserve after the win at Houston. Right guard Michael Jordan has a sore knee and didn’t practice this week after being called up the last two weeks from the practice squad.
“He’s got a sore knee right now, so we’re getting some tests run to see where he’s at,” Bowles said.

Whether Jordan can play or not, the Bucs will be without three of their five starters along the offensive line. After Mauch and Goedeke, Tristan Wirfs is working his way back from offseason knee surgery and isn’t ready to return. Wideout Chris Godwin is also still recovering from a gruesome ankle injury suffered in Week 7 last season.
“This is why we all get reps together during spring and during training camp going into it,” center/guard Ben Bredeson said, “so we are prepared for times like these.”
The Buccaneers will face Jets backup Tyrod Taylor on Sunday as starting quarterback Justin Fields is in concussion protocol.
