The Bengals have lost Joe Burrow for the season … again.
Cincinnati got some rotten news in the wake of the team’s 31-27 Week 2 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday. Burrow left the game with a toe injury and did not return. After being evaluated on Monday by an MRI, it was determined that the former LSU Tiger has a Grade 3 turf toe sprain and will require surgery. That surgery and recovery will keep him out a minimum of three months and maybe for the rest of the 2025 campaign.
According to NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport, Burrow is set to undergo surgery to repair the torn ligaments in his toe on Friday.

Rapoport noted that the surgery will take place at Birmingham’s Andrews Sports Medicine and Orthopedic Center by Dr. Norman Waldrop. Dr. Waldrop also performed surgeries on Tua Tagovailoa’s ankle and Derrick Henry’s foot. While Burrow was. placed in IR by the team earlier this week, coach Zac Taylor refuses to rule out his return before the end of the season.
With Burrow now unavailable for the foreseeable future, Cincinnati signed two quarterbacks on Tuesday. Sean Clifford and Mike White will join the Bengals’ practice squad, adding them to the QB room that already has Jake Browning and Brett Rypien.

“It’s a rollercoaster,” wideout Ja’Marr Chase said, via the team’s website. “Every game is going to be a rollercoaster. Every week from here on out, we’ve got to focus and execute. That’s the only thing. Our quarterback got [knocked] down, we’ve got to [say] ‘Next man up,’ and it’s on from there.”
The Bengals are 2-0 for the first time in seemingly forever, and now they may have to move forward with Jake Browning for a while. Browning went 21-of-32 for 241 yards with two touchdowns and three interceptions in the win. Bengals coach Zac Taylor expressed his confidence in Browning’s abilities.
“The point that you turn to now is [to be] excited for Jake to go out there and play,” Taylor said on Monday. “He’s earned the right to be in the spotlight. Guys will rally behind him and we’ll get Jake’s best.”
