Browns Move Quinshon Judkins Up Depth Chart

Quinshon Judkins has only been with the Cleveland Browns for eight days, and he’s already being promoted.

In Sunday’s 41-17 loss to the Ravens – Judkins’ first game with his new team – he posted 10 carries for 61 yards against a stingy Baltimore defense. The rest of the team totaled just 54.

For his efforts, Judkins has been named the starting running back on Sunday when the Browns host the Green Bay Packers at 1 p.m. ET on FOX, per the team’s official online depth chart. Maybe it means nothing, as coach Kevin Stefanski downplayed it to reporters.

“Yeah, obviously we’re going to keep bringing Quinshon along, but that unofficial depth chart is done by [P.R. chief] Peter [John-Baptiste],” Stefanski said.

But on the flip side, John-Baptiste works under orders from the team, and as Mike Florio wrote at PFT, “John-Baptiste wouldn’t have moved Judkins to No. 1 if he wasn’t damn sure that Judkins is RB1.”

In addition to his 6.1 yards per carry last Sunday, Judkins caught three balls for 10 yards. He’ll have to do more of that against a skilled Green Bay defense. Cleveland will need an aggressive rushing attack to counter the pass rush of new Packers linebacker, Micah Parsons. And now, Judkins will be that top option for Stefanski and quarterback Joe Flacco.

Flacco is excited to get more of Judkins on Sunday.

“He’s showing up last week and he’s trying to pick up as much as he can, and your head has to be spinning a little bit,” Flacco said. “So the exciting thing this week is that he’s going to get to sit in every single meeting, go out and do walkthroughs … go out and practice, get the reps. I think he’s got a lot of talent, so that’s what’s exciting for us, is just to get an explosive guy some touches and see what he can do with it.”

The Browns’ 40-year-old quarterback also stated that he expects Judkins to be able to wear down the Packers’ defense on Sunday and open the door for more splash plays.
