The No. 4 Texas A&M Aggies kept the perfect season alive with a 45-42 win over the Arkansas Razorbacks at Razorback Stadium in Fayetteville, AR, riding Marcel Reed’s best outing of the year and just enough late-game resolve to move to 7-0 and 4-0 in the SEC.

It is A&M’s first 7-0 start since 1994.

With Georgia beating Mississippi earlier in the day, the Aggies are the SEC’s last unbeaten and should climb in the next AP poll.

Reed was the difference, going 23 of 32 for 280 yards and three touchdowns. He added 55 rushing yards and another score, and snapped a four-game interception streak.

“We are making winning plays,” head coach Mike Elko said. “I think they are learning how to make the plays you need to make to win football games.”

Wideout Ashton Bethel-Roman agreed.

“He played a great game. He had less missed open receivers.”

When Arkansas cut the lead to 38-35 with under ten minutes left, A&M answered with a championship series.

EJ Smith muscled a two-yard conversion on 4th-and-1 at the Aggie’ 34, Reed ripped a 37-yarder to Bethel-Roman to the 27, and Reuben Owens II finished the damage with a 12-yard touchdown. The Razorbacks scored with ten seconds left, but A&M covered the onside kick to seal it.

The Aggies controlled the scoreboard by scoring on seven of nine drives and piling up 497 yards.

Owens, starting for injured Le’Veon Moss, ran for 69 yards and two touchdowns. Bethel-Roman posted 83 yards and a score, KC Concepcion added 5 for 53 and a touchdown, and Nate Boerkircher grabbed a one-yard touchdown.

But concerns remain on defense for the Aggies.

Arkansas rolled to 527 total yards and 268 rushing. Quarterback Taylen Green threw for 256 and three touchdowns and ran for 89 and two more, while Mike Washington gashed for 147 rushing yards.

“We were very, very poor-fitting things tonight,” Elko said.

Bottom line: The offense traveled, the situational toughness showed up, and the Aggies owned the final moments. Next up is a showcase trip to No. 10 LSU Saturday night at 6:30 p.m. CT on ABC.
