Texas Tech’s unbeaten run ended in Tempe with a late gut punch. Arizona State’s Raleek Brown powered in from the 1 with 34 seconds left, flipping a 22-19 Red Raiders lead into a 26-22 Sun Devils win Saturday at Mountain America Stadium.
Tech drops to 6-1 and 3-1 in the Big 12 after a long afternoon without starting quarterback Behren Morton.

The offense never found its usual rhythm. Tech entered averaging an FBS-best 558.8 yards per game and finished with only 276. Freshman Will Hammond battled through three quiet quarters, then nearly stole it.
He capped a fourth-quarter drive with a 1-yard keeper, then delivered a 12-yard strike to Reggie Virgil and ran in the two-point conversion to go up 22-19 with 2:11 to play. It was enough to set the stage, not enough to close.
Arizona State answered from its own 25 with two minutes left. Sam Leavitt went 5 of 7 for 61 yards on the march and drew a key pass interference on Brice Pollack to set up Brown’s winner. Tech reached the ASU 28 on the final possession, but Hammond’s end-zone heave was swatted away.
Without defensive tackle Skyler Gill-Howard after season-ending ankle surgery, Tech’s front yielded 394 yards. The defense stiffened in the red zone for most of the day while Jesus Gomez kicked four field goals for ASU, but the final stand never came. Leavitt threw for 319 yards and a 2-yard touchdown to Jordyn Tyson.
The Red Raiders joined No. 2 Miami, No. 5 Mississippi, and No. 10 LSU among top-10 teams to stumble this weekend.

Tech showed resilience behind a backup quarterback, yet the standard is higher. Clean up early-down efficiency, finish drives, and tighten coverage in two-minute. The Big 12 race is still in front of them.
The Red Raiders will regroup and host Oklahoma State on Saturday at 3 p.m. CT in Lubbock.
