The No. 9 Texas Tech Red Raiders turned on the offense to start the game against the Kansas Jayhawks, jumping out to an 18-7 lead in the second quarter.
But disaster struck at the 11:33 mark as Red Raiders quarterback Behren Morton went down at the hands of Kansas linebacker Leroy Harris III for a 3-yard sack on a 3rd and 19 from the KU 19. The problem is Morton didn’t get up.
After being evaluated on the field by medical staff, Morton was helped off the field and evaluated more.
The Tech QB then attempted to run on the sideline during the Jayhawks’ next possession and shook his head in the negative when approached by teammates.
The Red Raiders’ Stone Harrington kicked a 40-yard field goal to increase the Tech lead to 21-0 as Morton was seen heading down the tunnel with trainers to the locker room.

Morton re-emerged back on the Red Raiders’ sideline wearing a boot as the broadcast confirmed he was ruled out for the rest of the game.
The Jayhawks scored on the ensuing drive to narrow the Tech lead to 21-7 and Will Howard took over for the injured Morton, who led the offense to a 3-and-out on his first possession at the helm.
Howard also relieved Morton in the Red Raiders’ 34-10 win over Utah this season, and finished the game 13-of-16 for 169 yards and two touchdowns.
