The Tampa Bay Buccaneers lost more than a football game Monday night in Detroit.
During the second quarter of a 24-9 defeat to the Lions, star wide receiver Mike Evans suffered a scary injury that left him on the turf for several minutes.

He was ruled out with a concussion and shoulder injury, and head coach Todd Bowles delivered the grim update afterward. Evans sustained a fractured collarbone and likely won’t return until “mostly toward the end of the year.”
The setback threatens one of the NFL’s great active streaks.
Evans has recorded at least 1,000 receiving yards in each of his first 11 seasons, an NFL record to begin a career and a mark that ties Hall of Famer Jerry Rice for the most consecutive 1,000-yard seasons at any point. On Monday, Evans was targeted four times and did not record a catch. For the season, he has 14 receptions for 140 yards.
Tampa Bay’s offense now faces a pivotal stretch without its most dependable playmaker, but the Buccaneers do have options.
Rookie first-rounder Emeka Egbuka (hamstring) returned against Detroit and has flashed early. Fellow rookie Tez Johnson is trending up with nine receptions for 162 yards and two touchdowns across his last three games. Veteran Chris Godwin (fibula) is expected back in the coming weeks, offering a potential stabilizing presence as the Bucs navigate a tricky NFC South push.

Still, the loss of Evans reshapes both the depth chart and the season’s narrative.
His pursuit of a 12th straight 1,000-yard campaign was among the league’s most compelling storylines. If the injury timetable holds, that chase likely ends here, leaving Evans shoulder-to-shoulder with Rice in the record book and the Buccaneers searching for answers as they turn the page to New Orleans.
