The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are facing maybe their biggest test of the season in Detroit on Monday Night Football against the Lions.
Already down 14-0 in the second quarter and with seemingly no momentum offensively, the team took an even bigger hit at the 5:00 mark.
In an effort to spark the offense, quarterback Baker Mayfield fired a deep shot down the left sideline for 12-year veteran wideout Mike Evans. Evans appeared to have caught the ball amid smothering coverage from Rock Ya-Sin. But when he hit the ground and rolled, Evans lost the ball and didn’t appear to move.
The Bucs’ medical crew arrived and Evans remained down on the field while wincing in pain. The replay showed Evans controlling the ball until he hit the ground when he appeared to have just let go of it as the injury was occurring.
The medical staff had to assist the former Texas A&M Aggie off the turf and to the sideline as he was leaning heavily on the left side on one of the staff members.
He had his eyes closed and was grimacing in pain as he was helped off.
A sideline report indicated that he was being evaluated for a right shoulder injury and a concussion. Evans was reportedly in so much pain that he had to be carted to the locker room.
This was Evans’ first game back after missing three this season due to a hamstring injury after missing four games last season with the same injury.
For the season, Evans has posted 14 catches for 140 yards and one touchdown through three games.
The Lions lead the Bucs 14-0 as halftime approaches.
