On the strength of four Jadarian Price touchdowns, the No. 24 Notre Dame Fighting Irish beat the Purdue Boilermakers 56-30 on Saturday at Notre Dame Stadium in South Bend, Indiana.
It’s the Fighting Irish’s 10th straight win over the Boilermakers, including last year’s 66-7 shellacking. Notre Dame now boasts a 61-26-2 all-time lead in the series. It’s a bounce-back game for Notre Dame coming off losses against Miami and Texas A&M in its first two games.
The Irish scored three TDs in the third quarter after getting out to a 35-23 lead a the half. After a disappointing loss to the season, Irish coach Marcus Freeman said he challenged his players.

“It was a realistic understanding: Stop making yourself feel better by saying we’re four points away from being 2-0, or, we’re close,” Freeman said of his message to the Fighting Irish before the game. “We’re 0-2. You have to say that to them so they don’t embrace it and understand the work they have to put in. That’s what we needed at this moment. To be challenged and understand our backs are against the wall at this moment. How are we going to fight and get out of this.”
Price scored three times rushing the ball with runs of 21, nine, and one yards, and carried the ball nine times for 74 yards. He finished the game with 216 total yards He also scored on a 100-yard kickoff return.
Jeremiyah Love ended with 157 rushing yards on 19 carries and scored on runs of 46 and one yard. C.J. Carr went 10-of-12 passing for 223 yards and two touchdowns. The game was delayed for 1:54 due to lightning late in the first half.

Ryan Browne went 21-of-34 passing for Purdue with 250 yards and one touchdown. Browne scored with a touchdown pass from running back Devin Mockobee in the first quarter that tied the game at 7.
“I thought our offense gave us a chance to win,” Purdue coach Barry Odom said. “That kickoff return (by Price) really hurt us. We can’t allow that to happen. I’m disappointed that we in get into a game of this magnitude and we didn’t play our best ball.”
