Wyndham Clark had every reason to wobble Sunday at the BMW Championship.

Instead, he finished like a closer.

Clark watched a five-shot lead disappear as Rory McIlroy charged into a tie through 11 holes at Bellerive Country Club, but the 2023 U.S. Open champion answered with his best golf when it mattered most. Clark birdied the final three holes, closed with an even-par 70 and finished at 17-under 263 for a three-shot victory.

It was Clark’s third PGA Tour win of 2026, putting him firmly in the Player of the Year conversation after a season that already included a major championship.

“I’m really proud of myself that I didn’t let it get away,” Clark said.

That’s the story of the round.

For most of Sunday, Clark looked uncomfortable. He made three bogeys, couldn’t get much going on the greens and seemed to be giving McIlroy every opportunity to steal the tournament.

Then came the par-3 16th.

Clark buried a birdie putt from just outside 15 feet, while McIlroy missed his chance to answer. On the par-5 17th, McIlroy made bogey after bouncing from rough to bunker to bunker, and Clark added another birdie.

By the time Clark birdied 18, the drama was over.

McIlroy shot 69 and finished alone in third at 12 under, failing to make a birdie over his final seven holes.

Patrick Cantlay delivered one of the other biggest performances of the day. He closed with three straight birdies for a 68, finished second at 14 under, and played his way from 43rd in the FedEx Cup standings into the top 30 and the Tour Championship.

Gary Woodland also punched his ticket to East Lake, tying for fourth after a 69. His week carried extra emotion as he continued his comeback following brain surgery three years ago.

Robert MacIntyre moved inside the top 30 as well, while Rickie Fowler, Bud Cauley and Kurt Kitayama fell out.

Ryan Fox grabbed the final Tour Championship spot.

Clark also secured an automatic place on the U.S. Presidents Cup team, joining Scottie Scheffler, Cameron Young, Russell Henley, Sam Burns and Collin Morikawa.

The BMW Championship started with Clark protecting a lead.

It ended with him making another statement.

Three wins. One major. One playoff title.
