Daniel Snyder may be done with the NFL, but the NFL may not be done with Daniel Snyder.

Three years after selling the Washington Commanders for $6.05 billion, Snyder has reportedly become almost completely invisible within league circles. He and his wife have relocated to London, and people who once interacted with him throughout his two-plus decades as an owner apparently aren’t hearing from him anymore.

That’s a dramatic change for one of the most controversial figures in modern NFL history.

Snyder’s exit from the league came after years of criticism, investigations and allegations involving the culture inside the Commanders organization. There were also reports that some owners became especially concerned about questions surrounding shared ticket revenue.

Eventually, the pressure became too much.

Josh Harris and his ownership group bought the Commanders in 2023, and Snyder effectively disappeared from the football world afterward.

According to a report from Front Office Sports, one NFL team official said, “Certainly nobody in the NFL is talking to him.”

That might have been the end of the story.

Except for Jon Gruden.

Gruden’s lawsuit against the NFL and Commissioner Roger Goodell remains tied to the release of private emails that ultimately led to his resignation as Raiders coach in October 2021.

Those emails were uncovered during an investigation involving Washington’s organization, and Snyder owned the franchise—and its systems—when that material was collected.

That creates an obvious question for Gruden’s legal team:

What did Snyder know?

If the case continues moving forward, Snyder could become a key witness. Gruden’s attorneys are expected to pursue answers about who had access to the emails, how they were distributed and whether anyone intentionally used them to force Gruden out.

Getting Snyder under oath could be complicated now that he lives outside the United States.

But complicated doesn’t mean impossible.

And if Gruden’s lawyers are serious about tracing the path of those leaked emails, Snyder’s name is likely to keep surfacing.

That’s the irony of his post-NFL life.

Snyder appears to have done everything possible to leave the league behind.

But one of the NFL’s messiest legal fights may still come knocking.
