Troy Aikman tells Mike Fisher he’d consider helping Jerry Jones and the Cowboys as his ESPN future remains uncertain and Dallas faces major decisions ahead.

FRISCO – The Dallas Cowboys might have an unexpected opportunity to bring one of their greatest players back into the organization. And this time, Troy Aikman is making it clear that he’s willing to listen.

In an exclusive interview with Cowboys insider Mike Fisher on the Cowboys Fish Report, right here on Fan Stream Sports, the Hall of Fame quarterback expressed openness to discussing a potential front-office role with Cowboys owner Jerry Jones.

“I would have lunch, breakfast, or dinner with Jerry anytime he wants it,” Aikman told Fisher. “And it wouldn’t necessarily have to be because it’s a job interview.”

That’s an intriguing development for a franchise facing mounting questions about its direction.

Aikman, who led Dallas to three Super Bowl championships during the 1990s, acknowledged that his relationship with Jones hasn’t always been smooth.

“Our relationship is complicated,” Aikman admitted, emphasizing that their history remains grounded in mutual respect.

But the most revealing part of the conversation came when Aikman addressed whether he’d consider helping the Cowboys rebuild their football operation.

“I would welcome any conversation with Jerry,” Aikman said. “If Jerry came to me and felt, in his heart, I could lend some services that would help make them better, I’d have a hard time not taking a good look at that.”

The timing is particularly interesting.

Aikman’s ESPN contract expires following the 2026 NFL season, putting his future alongside Joe Buck on Monday Night Football in question. The 59-year-old broadcaster has acknowledged that losing his television role would be difficult, but he’s also repeatedly expressed interest in working within an NFL organization.

He gained front-office experience earlier this year consulting with the Miami Dolphins during their general manager and head coaching searches. Reports indicate that arrangement doesn’t include a formal ongoing contract.

Meanwhile, Jones has publicly praised Aikman’s football knowledge and leadership potential.

“Troy is very capable,” Jones told reporters during the NFL’s fall ownership meetings, adding that he believes Aikman is qualified for virtually any football-related position.

For Cowboys fans frustrated by the franchise’s prolonged championship drought, the possibility of Aikman joining Dallas’ decision-making structure is certainly compelling.

The former No. 1 overall pick spent 12 seasons quarterbacking America’s Team, throwing for 32,942 yards and 165 touchdowns while building a championship legacy.

None of this means Jones has offered Aikman a position, or that serious negotiations are underway.

But after years of wondering whether Dallas would ever bring its legendary quarterback into the front office, one significant question has finally been answered.

Troy Aikman is willing to talk. Now it’s up to Jerry Jones.
