FORT WORTH – Horned Frogs receiver Eric McAlister caught three touchdown passes with 254 yards receiving as TCU beat old SWC rival SMU 35-24 at Amon G. Carter Stadium in Fort Worth on Saturday.

TCU quarterback Josh Hoover threw a career-high five scoring passes with 349 yards on 22-of-40 passing. He now has 53 touchdown passes in 22 career starts in what could be the final game between the two schools in the battle for the Iron Skillet. Saturday’s matchup was the 104th meeting in the past 110 years after the two schools continued the rivalry after the breakup of the Southwest Conference after the 1995 season. The only two seasons they have not played after that were in 2006 and 2020.

The Frogs now hold a 54-43-7 lead in the series.

Mustangs quarterback Kevin Jennings finished 24-of-37 for 290 yards and three touchdowns with two interceptions. Last year, SMU made its ACC debut and won the regular season while advancing to its first College Football Playoff.  This year, the Mustangs already have two losses after just four games, including a loss to Baylor two weeks ago.

McAlister caught a short pass, then ran the rest of the 70 yards for a score with 9:18 left in the fourth quarter. He added a 44-yard score just three minutes later to put the game out of reach for the Mustangs. McAlister’s 70-yarder came just three plays after Jennings threw his third touchdown pass of the day on a 34-yarder to Jordan Hudson that gave SMU its only lead at 24-21.
