The Pittsburgh Steelers etched their name into the history books on Sunday, defeating the Minnesota Vikings 24-21 in the first regular-season NFL game ever played in Ireland. The win pushes Pittsburgh to 3-1 on the season heading into their Week 5 bye, while Minnesota falls to 2-2.
Pittsburgh opened the game with a 3-and-out after quarterback Aaron Rodgers was sacked on the first play. The Vikings, led by fill-in starter Carson Wentz in place of injured rookie J.J. McCarthy, capitalized early with a 41-yard field goal by Will Reichard to take a 3-0 lead.
The Steelers responded quickly on their second drive, as Rodgers connected with DK Metcalf three times to move into the red zone. Kenneth Gainwell capped it off with a 1-yard rushing touchdown to give Pittsburgh a 7-3 lead.

The momentum shifted further after Nick Herbig recorded a third-down sack to halt Minnesota’s next possession. On the ensuing play, Metcalf took a short slant route 80 yards to the end zone, putting the Steelers up 14-3.
Pittsburgh missed a chance to extend the lead late in the half when Chris Boswell’s 30-yard field goal attempt was blocked. Minnesota made the most of the opportunity, with Wentz connecting with Justin Jefferson to set up a 28-yard field goal. The Steelers took a 14-6 lead into halftime.
Both teams started the second half slowly, trading punts. But the tide turned when T.J. Watt tipped and intercepted a Wentz pass, setting up Pittsburgh in prime position. Gainwell once again delivered, running in his second touchdown of the game to extend the lead to 21-6.
Boswell later added a 33-yard field goal, pushing the lead to 24-6 before Minnesota mounted a late rally.
Wentz connected with Zavier Scott for a 16-yard touchdown and converted the two-point try to trim the lead to 24-14. After stopping the Steelers on 4th-and-goal, Minnesota struck again, this time with an 81-yard pass to Jordan Addison, setting up a 2-yard score to Jalen Nailor and cutting the deficit to just three.

With just over two minutes left, Minnesota attempted an onside kick, but Roman Wilson recovered it cleanly for Pittsburgh. The Vikings would get one last chance with just over a minute remaining but failed to convert on 4th-and-18 after multiple penalties and an intentional grounding call against Wentz.
The Steelers held on for a 24-21 victory, improving to 3-1 before their bye week.
Rodgers finished 18-of-22 for 200 yards and a touchdown, while Wentz went 30-of-46 for 350 yards with two touchdowns and a pair of interceptions. Gainwell had himself a day while subbing for Jaylen Warren, with 99 yards on 19 carries and two scores. Metcalf finished with 126 yards on five catches with a score.
The Steelers return in Week 6 to face the AFC North rival Cleveland Browns on Oct. 12.
