The Dallas Cowboys may not be done making moves. Team owner and general manager Jerry Jones has hinted that the front office could be active ahead of the NFL trade deadline, and one major area of need has quickly emerged â the pass rush.
While Justin Houston has flashed in recent weeks, Dallas still lacks consistent pressure off the edge, and that could lead Jones and the front office to explore adding another impact defender before itâs too late.

According to Kristopher Knox of Bleacher Report, one intriguing trade target for Dallas could be Jaelan Phillips of the Miami Dolphins, a former first-round pick whoâs shown plenty of upside when healthy.
âPhillips, meanwhile, is playing on the fifth-year option and will likely depart in 2026 free agency if he isn’t dealt,â Knox wrote. âHeâs been a solid edge defender when healthy, but Miami has a deep rotation that also includes Zach Sieler, Bradley Chubb, Matthew Judon and Chop Robinson.â
Phillipsâ combination of youth and athleticism could make him an ideal fit for a Cowboys defense thatâs been searching for answers since the loss of Micah Parsons earlier this season. Despite battling injuries, Phillips remains just 26 years old and carries significant upside for any team willing to take a chance.
The 2022 season was Phillipsâ best, when he posted 61 tackles, seven sacks, eight tackles for loss, a forced fumble, and two fumble recoveries. While injuries have slowed his momentum since, a change of scenery â and a role opposite Houston or DeMarcus Lawrence â could help him rediscover that form.

Even better for Dallas, his projected trade cost is modest â reportedly a conditional 2026 fourth-round pick. For a player of Phillipsâ pedigree and potential, thatâs a low-risk, high-reward gamble that could help keep Dallas in the NFC race.
If Jerry Jones truly believes the Cowboys are one player away from becoming an elite defensive unit again, Jaelan Phillips might just be the kind of move that turns heads before the deadline.
