Even in a solid road win, the Dallas Cowboys still find a way to go full Cowboys.

Following a 37–22 victory over the New York Jets on Sunday, the Cowboys improved to 2-2-1 — but the scoreboard wasn’t the only thing making headlines. The moment instantly went viral, sparking backlash and speculation about a potential fine from the NFL. But according to Jones, it was all just a big misunderstanding.

“That was unfortunate,” Jones told 105.3 The Fan on Tuesday. “That was inadvertently done… the intention was thumbs up and then basically pointing at our fans.” According to the 81-year-old owner, he was just trying to join in the celebration after Dallas’ final touchdown and simply “put up the wrong show on the hand.”

Whether the league buys his story or not remains to be seen — and knowing how image-conscious the NFL is, don’t be surprised if a fine still lands in his inbox.

It’s classic Cowboys chaos: a team that can never quite let the football do all the talking. Even in victory, they manage to steal the headlines for all the wrong reasons. Only Jerry.
