The Miami Dolphins may be heading for a fire sale, and some around the NFL are already floating potential deals — including a move that would send edge rusher Bradley Chubb to the Dallas Cowboys. But let’s pump the brakes.
According to Sports Illustrated’s Matt Verderame, a hypothetical trade would send Chubb to Dallas for a conditional fifth-round pick. On the surface, it’s tempting: the Cowboys need pass rush help, and Chubb has four sacks this season. But for a franchise that just moved on from Micah Parsons and is trying to rebuild defensive chemistry, this feels like a desperate swing with a low ceiling.

Chubb, 29, is no stranger to injuries. He missed all of 2024 with a torn ACL — his third major knee injury — and has struggled with durability his entire career. The Cowboys don’t need to take a flyer on another rehab project just to say they made a move.
Even if Chubb is showing flashes this season, he’s not close to his Pro Bowl form from Denver. Betting on him to suddenly become a cornerstone in Matt Eberflus’ system feels overly optimistic. And Dallas fans have seen this story before: overpaying for a veteran with a flashy resume who can’t stay on the field in crunch time.
If the Cowboys are going to turn this season around defensively, it needs to come from within. Relying on external band-aids like Chubb — a player who may not even finish the season — only distracts from developing the young core already in place.

The front office needs to resist the temptation to make moves that feel good on paper but don’t hold up over 17 games. Chubb isn’t a long-term fit, and if Miami is looking to offload him, there’s probably a reason.
If the Dolphins continue to lose, the Cowboys should absolutely monitor the situation. But instead of looking to capitalize by bringing in risky veterans, they should stay focused on building a sustainable, healthy rotation. Let another team overpay for Chubb’s name value — Dallas has more to lose than gain by forcing a trade.
