Dak Prescott Throws 4 TDs, Cowboys Crush Jets 37-22 Despite Injuries and O-Line Overhaul

by | Oct 6, 2025 | Blog, Dallas

With four starting offensive linemen and two top receivers sidelined, many expected the Dallas Cowboys to struggle Sunday against a desperate New York Jets squad. Instead, Dak Prescott put on a clinic.

Prescott threw four touchdown passes, including two to tight end Jake Ferguson, and Javonte Williams racked up 135 yards rushing with two scores as Dallas stormed past the winless Jets, 37-22, to get back in the win column after last week’s bizarre 40-40 tie with Green Bay.

“There’s not many teams that put four guys who don’t start into the game and feel confident about going and winning a game — especially on the road,” Prescott said.

Dak Delivers Behind Makeshift Offensive Line

Despite missing four starters on the offensive line — Tyler Smith, Tyler Guyton, Tyler Booker, and Cooper Beebe — Prescott was surgical:

  • 18 of 29, 237 yards, 4 TDs

  • Led two 90+ yard scoring drives in the 2nd quarter

  • Controlled the tempo all game long

Right tackle Terence Steele was the only regular lineman available, yet the Cowboys’ offense clicked

“We’re spoiled,” said OC Brian Schottenheimer. “Dak is one of the best leaders I’ve ever been around.”

Jake Ferguson Joins NFL History Books

Ferguson had 7 receptions, bringing his season total to 41 — making him just the fourth tight end in NFL history with 40+ catches in his team’s first five games:

  • Zach Ertz (2018)

  • Eric Johnson (2004)

  • Antonio Gates (2007)

  • Jake Ferguson (2025)

He hauled in two touchdown passes and was a mismatch nightmare for a Jets defense that continues to look lost.

Javonte Williams: Thunder and Lightning

Williams delivered his best game as a Cowboy:

  • 135 yards rushing, including a 66-yard breakaway

  • TD run and a receiving touchdown

  • Highlight reel 5-yard score, diving for the pylon

His explosive play helped Dallas flip the game after falling behind 3-0 early.

Jets Spiral to 0-5 as Glenn Starts Tenure in Historic Hole

New York head coach Aaron Glenn made the wrong kind of history Sunday, becoming the first Jets coach ever to start 0-5. His defense also became the first in NFL history to go winless through five games without forcing a single takeaway, per ESPN Research.

Quarterback Justin Fields was overwhelmed early, throwing 46 times with little impact until garbage time:

  • 32 of 46, 283 yards, 2 late TDs, 5 sacks

  • TDs to Andrew Beck and Garrett Wilson

  • Converted two-point tries to Mason Taylor and Josh Reynolds

Running back Breece Hall had 113 rushing yards but a costly second-quarter fumble flipped momentum permanently in Dallas’ favor.

Key Moments:

  • Pick 1: Prescott hit Ferguson for a 26-yard screen TD after a 90-yard drive.

  • Pick 2: Williams scores after Hall’s fumble, Dallas up 17-3.

  • Pick 3: Williams bursts for 66 yards, then Ferguson scores again, 24-3.

  • Pick 4: Deep shot to George Pickens for a 43-yard TD late in the 3rd.

The only blemish was a missed extra point after Nate Thomas was flagged for unsportsmanlike conduct following a score.

Injuries:

  • Cowboys LB Jack Sanborn: Left with concussion in 1st half

  • WR Jalen Brooks: Knee injury in 4th quarter

  • Still missing: CeeDee Lamb, KaVontae Turpin

What’s Next

  • Cowboys (2-2-1): Travel to Carolina next Sunday.

Bottom Line: Cowboys Prove Their Depth Runs Deep

With four backup linemen and multiple offensive starters sidelined, Dallas looked dominant, not desperate. The “next man up” mentality wasn’t just a cliché — it was a blueprint.

If Prescott keeps this up — especially when the starters return — the Cowboys could be dangerous in the NFC.
