SMU took care of business in a big way Saturday, steamrolling Louisville 38-6 at home to stay firmly in the ACC title chase. The Mustangs improved to 8-3 overall and 6-1 in conference play, and with one more win plus a little help, they’ll be back in the ACC Championship Game for the second straight season.
Kevin Jennings was the engine from start to finish. The junior quarterback threw for 303 yards and three touchdowns while adding another score on the ground, posting his third consecutive 300-yard passing performance. He was sharp and in rhythm all afternoon, completing 29 of 37 passes and constantly keeping Louisville off balance.

His highlight moment came late in the first half on a wild five-yard touchdown toss to TJ Harden, when Jennings reversed field to evade pressure and then flipped a dart while still on the run to push SMU’s lead to 21-3. It was the kind of play that screams confidence — and a quarterback hitting his stride in November.
SMU set the tone early with a Jennings two-yard touchdown run on the opening drive, then kept piling on with timely strikes to a stacked receiving group. Jordan Hudson delivered one of the day’s prettiest plays with a leaping seven-yard touchdown catch near the goal line, getting a foot down in bounds despite tight coverage.
Yamir Knight capped the party in the fourth quarter with a six-yard scoring grab in the back of the end zone, fitting perfectly into a day where SMU’s offense looked balanced, explosive, and completely in control.
Louisville, banged up and short-handed, never found a rhythm.
The Cardinals were without starting quarterback Miller Moss and leading rusher Isaac Brown, and managed only 228 total yards. Redshirt freshman Harrison Adams made his first career start and battled, but SMU’s defense made life miserable throughout, limiting Louisville to six points and slamming the door after halftime.
Now the path is clear for SMU.
Win next week at California, and the Mustangs will need either Georgia Tech or Virginia to slip in their ACC finales to punch a return ticket to the title game. With Jennings playing lights-out and the roster believing again, SMU is heading into the finale with momentum, swagger, and a real shot to make this season even bigger.
