Mike Evans departs the Buccaneers after 12 legendary seasons, signing with the 49ers as Tampa loses its all-time receiving leader.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers era of Mike Evans is officially over, and it’s going to take a while for that reality to sink in.
After 12 seasons with the Buccaneers, the franchise’s most dominant wide receiver is reportedly heading west, agreeing to a three-year deal with the San Francisco 49ers. The move closes the chapter on one of the greatest careers in Tampa Bay sports history and sends one of the NFL’s most consistent playmakers to a new contender.
Per ProFootballTalk.com, the deal is worth $60.4M across three years.

Evans wasn’t just another receiver in Tampa. He was the offense.
Drafted seventh overall in 2014, Evans quickly became the face of the Buccaneers’ passing attack. Over more than a decade, he turned into Tampa Bay’s all-time scoring leader with 662 points, while redefining what a No. 1 receiver looks like in the organization.
As the Buccaneers’ primary “X” receiver, Evans made a living stretching the field and dominating in the red zone. His ability to win contested catches and deliver explosive plays made him a nightmare for opposing defenses and a security blanket for multiple quarterbacks.
His consistency bordered on historic.
Evans recorded 11 straight 1,000-yard receiving seasons, tying Jerry Rice for the longest streak in NFL history. The record was within reach in 2025 before a broken collarbone in Week 7 interrupted the run. Even then, Evans returned late in the season and reminded everyone who he was, posting 132 receiving yards in Week 15.
The numbers tell the story of his impact.
Evans leaves Tampa Bay with 13,052 receiving yards and 108 touchdown catches, placing him among the most productive receivers in NFL history. Only 10 players in league history have surpassed 13,000 yards and 100 touchdowns, a list that includes legends like Randy Moss, Terrell Owens, Larry Fitzgerald and Marvin Harrison.
Yet the decision to leave wasn’t driven by money.
According to Evans’ agent Deryk Gilmore, Tampa Bay made a strong effort to keep the veteran receiver in a Buccaneers uniform.
“The Buccaneers made it clear they would have loved for Mike to finish his career in Tampa,” Gilmore said in a statement. “In the end, this decision simply came down to Mike wanting a new challenge and a fresh opportunity while he still feels he has a great deal left to give the game.”
