Matt Fitzpatrick outlasted Scottie Scheffler in a playoff at the RBC Heritage, grabbing his second tartan jacket and climbing higher in golf’s 2026 race.
Matt Fitzpatrick delivered one of the coldest finishes of the PGA Tour season on Sunday, beating Scottie Scheffler in a playoff to win the 2026 RBC Heritage at Harbour Town Golf Links. The RBC Heritage final round had everything: a three-shot lead, a late charge from the world No. 1, a collapse threat on the 72nd hole and then one flawless answer in sudden death.

Fitzpatrick started the day in control and looked ready to coast. The English star opened with two early birdies, stretched his edge and kept Scheffler chasing for most of the afternoon. But Harbour Town has a way of making leaders sweat, and that’s exactly what happened when Scheffler turned up the heat late. He played the final four holes in 2-under, erased the gap and forced extra holes after Fitzpatrick couldn’t save par at the last.
That’s when the tournament flipped from tense to brutal.
On the first playoff hole, Fitzpatrick attacked with a towering 4-iron that settled 12 feet from the flag, the kind of shot that leaves no room for drama. Scheffler had a chance to answer, but Fitzpatrick buried the birdie putt and slammed the door. Just like that, he had his second RBC Heritage title in four years and the fourth PGA Tour win of his career.
The victory adds even more fuel to a red-hot stretch. Fitzpatrick now has two wins in his last three starts and becomes one of only two multiple-time winners on the PGA Tour this season. He also vaults to No. 3 in the Official World Golf Ranking and climbs to second in the FedExCup race.

Scheffler finished runner-up again after posting 18-under, while Collin Morikawa tied for fourth at 13-under despite not being at full strength. Jordan Spieth ended tied for 33rd at 7-under, Viktor Hovland slid to tied for 43rd at 6-under and Jake Knapp never found his rhythm, finishing tied for 74th at 2-over.
Fitzpatrick didn’t just survive Sunday. He ripped the trophy away.
