Bengals Sign 2 QBs in Wake of Joe Burrow Injury News

The Cincinnati Bengals got some rotten news in the wake of the team’s 31-27 Week 2 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday.

Quarterback Joe Burrow left the game with a toe injury and did not return. After being evaluated on Monday by an MRI, it was determined that the former LSU Tiger has a Grade 3 turf toe sprain and will require surgery. That surgery and recovery will keep him out a minimum of three months and maybe for the rest of the 2025 campaign.

With Burrow now unavailable for the foreseeable future, Cincinnati signed two quarterbacks on Tuesday. Sean Clifford and Mike White will join the Bengals’ practice squad, adding them to the QB room that already has Jake Browning and Brett Rypien.

Clifford played at Penn State from 2017-2022 and left the program as the all-time leader in passing yards (10,661) and touchdowns (86). He went to the Packers in the fifth round of the 2023 NFL Draft.

White was selected by the Dallas Cowboys out of South Florida and Western Kentucky in the fifth round of the 2018 draft. He’s spent time with the Jets, Dolphins and Bills.

“It’s a rollercoaster,” wideout Ja’Marr Chase said, via the team’s website. “Every game is going to be a rollercoaster. Every week from here on out, we’ve got to focus and execute. That’s the only thing. Our quarterback got [knocked] down, we’ve got to [say] ‘Next man up,’ and it’s on from there.”

The Bengals are 2-0 for the first time in seemingly forever, and now they may have to move forward with Jake Browning for a while. Browning went 21-of-32 for 241 yards with two touchdowns and three interceptions in the win.

Bengals coach Zac Taylor expressed his confidence in Browning’s abilities.

“The point that you turn to now is [to be] excited for Jake to go out there and play,” Taylor said on Monday. “He’s earned the right to be in the spotlight. Guys will rally behind him and we’ll get Jake’s best.”

Offensive coordinator Dan Pitcher agreed and knows that adding at least one more guy to the room was necessary.

“To me, you have to have three guys who are healthy and available to play,” Pitcher said Monday.

The Bengals will now move on, at least for now, without Burrow … something they’ve unfortunately become accustomed to since drafting him.
