The Brewers take a 1-0 World Series lead into Game 2 against Tampa Bay, with Drew Rasmussen facing Logan Henderson in a pivotal pitching matchup Saturday night.
The Milwaukee Brewers are three victories away from their first World Series championship, but the Tampa Bay Rays have a pretty good reason to believe Saturday night’s Game 2 could change everything.
His name is Drew Rasmussen.
After Milwaukee escaped with a dramatic 3-2 victory in Friday’s World Series opener, the Rays will send their ace to the mound against rookie Logan Henderson at American Family Field. First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m. CT on FOX.
Rasmussen has been nearly untouchable down the stretch. The right-hander finished the regular season 16-5 with a 2.67 ERA and 174 strikeouts, then went 2-0 with a 1.29 ERA in his first three postseason starts.

The Rays are 14-1 in Rasmussen’s 15 starts since the All-Star break, making him their best opportunity to steal a game in Milwaukee before the series shifts to Tampa Bay.
But Henderson isn’t exactly an easy assignment.
The 24-year-old Brewers right-hander went 11-3 with a 2.47 ERA during the regular season. Milwaukee has won 21 of his 25 career starts, including the postseason, although Henderson has occasionally struggled with command under October pressure.
Milwaukee seized Game 1 behind Christian Yelich’s first-inning RBI triple and another timely performance from Jackson Chourio, who finished with two hits and drove in a crucial seventh-inning insurance run.
Rookie fireballer Jacob Misiorowski delivered five strong innings, while closer Trevor Megill survived a chaotic ninth inning, striking out Jonny DeLuca with runners at second and third after an apparent game-ending double play was overturned.
Tampa Bay’s biggest problem wasn’t a lack of opportunities. The Rays finished 0-for-6 with runners in scoring position, wasting several chances to turn the opener in their favor.
Junior Caminero, Yandy Díaz and Jonathan Aranda will be central to the Rays’ offensive response. Tampa Bay also must find a way to challenge catcher William Contreras, who threw out two would-be base stealers Friday.

For Milwaukee, another fast start could put enormous pressure on Kevin Cash’s club. The Brewers finished the regular season 103-59, and their combination of timely hitting and effective bullpen work has carried into October.
History favors Milwaukee. Teams winning the first two games of a best-of-seven World Series have gone on to capture the championship in 45 of 55 previous instances.
A Brewers victory would create a commanding 2-0 advantage. A Rays win would send the series to Tampa Bay tied, with Game 3 scheduled for Monday night.
Game 2 comes down to whether Rasmussen can silence Milwaukee’s lineup or whether the Brewers can push their remarkable season one step closer to history.
