Brendan Sorsby’s NFL supplemental draft push is officially over, and now the quarterback’s next football checkpoint is the 2027 NFL Draft.

After the league announced it would not hold a supplemental draft this year, Sorsby initially had legal options on the table. His attorney, Jeffrey Kessler, argued the NFL’s decision violated the Collective Bargaining Agreement and indicated the matter could be pursued through the NFL Players Association. But that fight won’t continue.

Instead, Sorsby, the NFL and the NFLPA have reached a settlement that keeps him eligible for the 2027 NFL Draft while ending any potential legal action tied to this year’s supplemental draft situation.

That shifts the story from courtroom drama back to football — and personal recovery.

Sorsby released a lengthy statement Tuesday, taking responsibility for the gambling issue that put his path into question and explaining where his focus is now.

“There has been a lot of news about me out there and I want to share this statement to make sure things are clear,” Sorsby wrote. “I accept 100 percent responsibility for my actions. I did not have control of my gambling problem and it took getting caught for me to realize that, but it was truly the best thing that could’ve happened to me. Because of this, I have been able to get the help I need and fully focus on my recovery.”

He continued:

“The news about the supplemental draft changes nothing about my recovery — I will continue to take it one day at a time. Focusing on making myself better throughout this process and making sure to share what I have learned and will continue to learn with others going forward. I am fully committed to being the best version of myself that I can be while getting ready for the 2027 draft. God makes no mistakes and I look forward to seeing the good that is to come from this.”

It’s a sharp turn for a quarterback who had been trying to jump-start his professional career through a rare NFL mechanism. The supplemental draft has never been a guaranteed lifeline, and with the league declining to hold one this year, Sorsby’s immediate path closed fast.

Now, everything points toward the standard pre-draft grind.

The next year will be about rebuilding momentum, proving accountability and giving NFL teams a reason to evaluate him beyond the headlines. For Sorsby, the football questions aren’t going away. Neither are the character questions.
