The Cincinnati Bengals got another rotten injury break when Joe Burrow went down in the team’s 31-27 Week 2 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday. Burrow left the game with a toe injury and did not return. After being evaluated on Monday by an MRI, it was determined that the former LSU Tiger has a Grade 3 turf toe sprain and will require surgery. That surgery and recovery will keep him out a minimum of three months and maybe for the rest of the 2025 campaign.
That thrust backup Jake Browning into the starting role, and well, that didn’t go well in Week 3’s 48-10 loss at Minnesota, when he went 19-of-27 for 140 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions. The team also fumbled five times with three lost. The poor performance isn’t all on Jake, but the need to upgrade at quarterback with Burrow out, most likely for the rest of the season, became apparent.

“With the news of Jaxson Dart starting for the Giants in Week 4, the services of Jameis Winston as the backup prior to Dart being an option are a thing of the past. We all know ‘Famous Jameis’ can still play, and there are teams that could use a veteran in the locker room to either start or back up their current quarterback. Look for Winston to continue going with the flow and to provide the team with some stability if the Giants feel like a move is the way to go.”

Burrow had surgery last Friday to repair the torn tendons in his toe.
Last week, the Bengals signed two quarterbacks. Sean Clifford and Mike White will join the Bengals’ practice squad, adding them to the QB room that already has Jake Browning and Brett Rypien.
