Fifty-seven seasons of waiting ended Wednesday night as the Milwaukee Brewers defeated the Tampa Bay Rays 4-1 in Game 5 of the World Series, capturing the first championship in franchise history and completing one of baseball’s most remarkable seasons.

Behind a dominant performance from young ace Jacob Misiorowski, timely hitting from rookie Cooper Pratt and another shutdown effort from the bullpen, Milwaukee closed out the best-of-seven series four games to one at Tropicana Field.

Misiorowski delivered 5 2/3 scoreless innings, allowing just two hits and one walk before departing with a right calf cramp. The hard-throwing right-hander kept Tampa Bay’s offense off balance and gave Milwaukee the foundation it needed to finish the job.

Young Stars Deliver Championship Performance

Pratt provided the early offense, singling home Brice Turang in the second inning to put Milwaukee ahead 1-0.

David Hamilton added an RBI single in the fifth before William Contreras delivered a run-scoring double in the sixth. Pratt followed with a sacrifice fly, extending Milwaukee’s advantage to 4-0.

The 22-year-old rookie finished with two hits and two RBIs, adding another memorable performance to a breakout postseason. Pratt also established a World Series rookie record with hits in six consecutive at-bats.

Tampa Bay finally broke through in the ninth when Chandler Simpson delivered an RBI double, but closer Trevor Megill recorded the final out to send Milwaukee into celebration.

Contreras Earns World Series MVP Honors

Contreras was named World Series MVP after batting .381 with four RBIs over five games.

The Brewers also received another outstanding postseason contribution from Jackson Chourio, who recorded 11 hits during the five-game series.

Milwaukee finished the regular season with a franchise-record 103 victories before going 11-2 in the postseason.

The Brewers eliminated San Diego in the National League Division Series, swept the Los Angeles Dodgers in the NL Championship Series and dispatched Tampa Bay in five games.

A Championship 57 Seasons in the Making

For manager Pat Murphy and the Brewers, the championship represents the ultimate reward for a club that combined exceptional pitching, emerging young talent and fundamentally sound baseball.

Milwaukee’s only previous World Series appearance came in 1982, when the Brewers lost to the St. Louis Cardinals in seven games.

Now, after decades of postseason disappointments and near misses, the Brewers have finally reached baseball’s summit.
