The Chicago Bears have made one of the biggest moves of the 2026 NFL season, reportedly acquiring All-Pro defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons from the Tennessee Titans in a blockbuster deal that comes with an enormous price tag.

According to NFL insider Tom Pelissero, Chicago is sending two first-round draft picks and a fourth-round selection to Tennessee in exchange for the four-time Pro Bowl defensive lineman.

The trade gives Bears general manager Ryan Poles one of the NFL’s premier interior defenders while signaling that Chicago is serious about challenging for an NFC championship.

Chicago Pays Massive Price for Simmons

The reported compensation represents a substantial investment in a player Chicago believes can transform its defensive front.

The trade package includes:

  • Two first-round NFL Draft selections
  • One fourth-round NFL Draft selection

The specific draft years involved have not yet been confirmed.

For Tennessee, the move represents a dramatic change in direction. The Titans enter Week 8 with a 1-6 record and now have additional premium draft capital to accelerate their rebuilding efforts.

The decision is particularly surprising considering Simmons signed a three-year, $105.8 million contract extension in June that included $100 million guaranteed.

Simmons Immediately Transforms Bears Defense

Simmons, 29, has remained one of the NFL’s most disruptive interior defensive linemen despite Tennessee’s struggles.

Through seven games this season, the former Mississippi State standout has recorded 38 tackles, four sacks, six tackles for loss and nine quarterback hits.

His 2025 campaign was even more impressive, producing a career-high 11 sacks while earning first-team All-Pro honors.

At 6-foot-4 and 305 pounds, Simmons provides the combination of power, athleticism and pass-rushing ability Chicago has desperately needed.

He joins a defensive front featuring veteran Grady Jarrett and gives defensive coordinator Dennis Allen a legitimate game-changing presence in the middle of the line.

Bears Going All-In on NFC Championship Run

Chicago enters the week with a 5-2 record under head coach Ben Johnson, and the Simmons acquisition makes the team’s intentions unmistakable.

Rather than waiting for another offseason to address its defensive deficiencies, the Bears are investing heavily in winning immediately.

Simmons should improve Chicago’s interior pass rush while creating favorable matchups for the rest of the defensive line.

The financial implications are significant, however. Chicago inherits substantial commitments from Simmons’ massive contract extension while surrendering three valuable draft selections.

For Poles, the calculation is straightforward: an elite defensive tackle in his prime could be the difference between making the playoffs and competing for a Super Bowl.

Titans Choose Draft Capital Over Defensive Superstar

For Tennessee, trading Simmons marks a defining moment in the franchise’s rebuilding process.

The Titans are moving on from their best defensive player just four months after committing more than $100 million to keeping him in Nashville.

Simmons had expressed his desire to remain with Tennessee as recently as Wednesday, saying he had not heard anything from his agent or the organization suggesting a trade was imminent.

Less than 24 hours later, the circumstances have changed dramatically.

Tennessee now possesses additional first-round ammunition to rebuild a roster that has struggled throughout the 2026 season.

Whether that draft capital ultimately outweighs losing a player of Simmons’ caliber remains to be seen.

But one thing is certain: The Bears have made their biggest statement yet that they’re ready to contend for a championship.
