Bryce Young throws for 329 yards and Tetairoa McMillan erupts for 192 receiving yards as Carolina knocks off Detroit 32-26 on Sunday night.

The Carolina Panthers finally looked like a team capable of winning a shootout Sunday night.

Bryce Young delivered one of his sharpest performances of the season, Tetairoa McMillan turned in a career night and Carolina held off the Detroit Lions 32-26 at Bank of America Stadium.

Young completed 29 of 41 passes for 329 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions, finishing with a 110.7 passer rating.

His favorite target was impossible for Detroit to contain.

McMillan caught 14 passes for 192 yards and two touchdowns, nearly matching his receiving production from Carolina’s first three games combined. He had nine catches for 147 yards before halftime alone and repeatedly created separation against Detroit’s secondary.

Coach Dave Canales said afterward the Panthers intentionally moved McMillan around to create favorable matchups.

“It was just a great job by the staff,” Canales said. “Then from there it was just Bryce and TMac.”

Carolina also finally got the balance it had been searching for.

Chuba Hubbard rushed 20 times for 122 yards and two touchdowns, giving the Panthers a legitimate ground threat alongside Young’s passing attack.

That combination was critical because Detroit’s offense didn’t disappear.

Jared Goff threw for 412 yards, and the Lions kept pushing late, but Carolina’s depleted defense made enough plays when it mattered most. Rookie corner Will Lee III and safety Lathan Ransom helped stop Detroit on fourth down in the closing moments to seal the win.

The Panthers accomplished it while missing starting cornerbacks Jaycee Horn and Mike Jackson, along with wide receivers Jalen Coker and Xavier Legette.

That makes the victory more than just another win.

Carolina showed it could overcome injuries, trade punches with one of the NFC’s most explosive offenses and lean on its young stars in prime time.

At 2-2, the Panthers suddenly have momentum.

More importantly, Young and McMillan are starting to look like the foundation Carolina has been waiting for.
