CeeDee Lamb catches 17 passes and scores a late winner as the Dallas Cowboys rally past Houston 34-30 behind Dak Prescott and three Javonte Williams touchdowns.
The Dallas Cowboys spent the first half looking like a team headed for another frustrating Sunday. Then Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb changed the conversation.
Lamb caught a 12-yard touchdown pass with 40 seconds remaining, lifting Dallas to a 34-30 comeback victory over the Houston Texans on October 4. The Cowboys improved to 2-2, while Houston slipped to 0-4.
After last week’s painful loss to Baltimore in Brazil, Dallas finally delivered the finish it needed.
Prescott led an 11-play, 74-yard winning drive that took just 1:43. This time, the Cowboys left with a touchdown and a reason to exhale.
“There’s nothing like winning,” Prescott said. “I want to say it fixes all the problems, but it doesn’t.”
Lamb was the difference-maker.
Playing in the city he considers his second home, the star receiver piled up a career-high 17 catches for 189 yards and the decisive score. He also passed Drew Pearson for fourth on the franchise’s career receiving yards list.
Prescott completed 32 of 45 passes for 335 yards and one touchdown, connecting on 71.1 percent of his attempts. His second half was even sharper: 20 of 25 for 248 yards.
Coach Brian Schottenheimer called him “flawless in the second half.”
Javonte Williams supplied the muscle, scoring a career-best three rushing touchdowns after halftime. His 2-yard plunge in the fourth quarter gave Dallas its first lead, 27-23.
Getting there took some work.
Houston led 16-6 at halftime, and Brandon Aubrey had a 62-yard field goal blocked before missing from 65. KaVontae Turpin’s 48-yard kickoff return opened the second half with the spark Dallas had been missing.
The Texans still refused to go quietly.
Nico Collins, returning after missing two games with a hamstring injury, caught seven passes for 118 yards and two touchdowns. Woody Marks later scored from 6 yards out to put Houston back ahead 30-27.
That left Prescott one more chance.
He delivered despite a sore throwing hand that was stepped on during the game. Prescott wore a postgame wrap to limit swelling and said he did not expect it to become an issue.
Dallas now hosts Tampa Bay on Thursday. The comeback buys some breathing room, but the next test arrives fast.
