The Cleveland Browns are reportedly on the verge of doing the unthinkable: trading Myles Garrett to the Los Angeles Rams in a blockbuster deal built around Jared Verse, a 2027 first-round pick and additional draft compensation.
For Browns fans, this isn’t just a transaction. It’s a franchise gut punch.

Garrett has been the face of Cleveland’s defense, a two-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year, a seven-time Pro Bowler and one of the most feared pass rushers in football. Now, the Browns appear ready to move him to a Rams team that has never been shy about lighting the draft-pick pile on fire if it means chasing another Super Bowl.
Los Angeles is reportedly sending Verse, its 25-year-old pass rusher and former first-round pick, back to Cleveland as the centerpiece of the deal. Verse has produced 12 sacks and 22 tackles for loss over the past two seasons, giving the Browns a young, affordable defensive building block who can help soften the blow.
But let’s be real: replacing Garrett isn’t simple.
Garrett, 29, is coming off a monster season and is under contract through 2030 after signing a four-year, $160 million extension with $123 million guaranteed. His no-trade clause means he had to sign off on this move, which makes the deal even louder. This wasn’t Cleveland tossing him overboard. This was a superstar choosing Los Angeles once the Rams made the Browns an offer big enough to change the conversation.
The Rams are going full Hollywood chaos again. With Super Bowl LXI set for SoFi Stadium, Los Angeles is clearly trying to recreate the all-in magic that helped deliver a title after the Matthew Stafford trade. Add Garrett to a defensive core already boosted by moves for Trent McDuffie and Jaylen Watson, and the Rams are screaming one thing: win now.

Cleveland’s side is colder, but logical. The Browns get younger, add major draft capital and reportedly save around $30 million in cash. They’re also positioned with two first-round picks and 11 total selections in the 2027 NFL Draft, giving them ammunition to reshape the roster.
Still, this is the kind of move that follows a franchise for years.
If Verse becomes a star and the picks hit, Cleveland can call it painful but smart. If Garrett helps the Rams win another ring, Browns fans will never let this one go.
