Dallas Renegades improved to 3-0 after surviving a late push from the Columbus Aviators, winning 28-23 behind Dae Dae Hunter and key takeaways.

The Dallas Renegades stayed unbeaten Sunday, but this one came with a lot more stress than style. Dallas moved to 3-0 with a 28-23 win over the Columbus Aviators at Toyota Stadium, surviving a late scare in a game that showed both the Renegades’ firepower and their flaws.

For stretches, Dallas looked like one of the UFL’s best teams. For other stretches, it looked far too comfortable playing with danger.

The Renegades were sluggish early and let Columbus strike first, as Jalan McClendon led an opening touchdown drive and gave the Aviators early life. Dallas answered in the second quarter when quarterback Austin Reed found Deontay Burnett for a score, then flipped the game on a huge defensive play. Cornerback Shaun Wade jumped a throw, secured the interception and turned it into a defensive touchdown after a lateral to Ajene Harris, swinging momentum back toward the home side.

From there, Dallas started to look more like itself. Dae Dae Hunter continued his strong start to the season, finishing with 62 rushing yards on 11 carries and punching in a touchdown. Reed later added a scoring strike to Emmanuel Butler, and suddenly the Renegades had built what felt like a safe cushion.

It wasn’t.

Columbus kept coming. McClendon rebounded from two costly interceptions and helped engineer a fourth-quarter push, while receiver Antwane Wells made the most of his opportunities with four catches for 43 yards and a touchdown. John Lovett also found the end zone twice for the Aviators, who showed far more fight than many expected.

Dallas still made enough plays to close it out. Linebacker Donald Payne racked up 10 tackles in his first start of the year, and safety Tra Fluellen chipped in four tackles and an interception to help preserve the win.

The final score says the Renegades handled business. The full story says they’ve got things to clean up fast. Dallas went just 4-for-12 on third down and committed 11 penalties for 75 yards. Still, ugly wins count too, and at 3-0, the Renegades remain one of the early UFL teams to watch.
