Xander Schauffele Strikes Gold Again in Japan, This Time with a PGA Tour Win at the Baycurrent Classic

Xander Schauffele’s long, frustrating season finally got its fairytale ending — and fittingly, it came in Japan, a place that’s practically a second home for the Schauffele family.

The 2025 Baycurrent Classic champion closed out his year in style on Sunday with a 7-under 64, edging out Max Greyserman by one shot at Yokohama Country Club. The victory marks Schauffele’s first PGA Tour title of the season and caps off a year filled with both joy and struggle.

Schauffele, who missed two months early in the year with a rib injury, had been searching for form after failing to qualify for the Tour Championship for the first time in his career. Yet with one round left in his season, he found the magic again — birdieing the 17th hole to secure the win at 19-under 265.

“This is really special for me — sooner than I thought, to be fair,” Schauffele said afterward. “I was running out of events in 2025 to put my mark on it. When I look back at this year someday, I’ll probably smile and think it was a great one.”

The victory is a full-circle moment for the 2021 Olympic gold medalist, who also claimed that title in Japan. Schauffele’s ties to the country run deep — his mother and mother-in-law were both raised there, and his maternal grandparents still live in Japan. His 81-year-old grandmother even walked the course with him during the final round.

Adding to the emotional weight, Schauffele and his wife, Maya, became parents just six weeks ago.

“It’s still fresh, but it’s such a cool thing being a dad,” he said. “I can’t wait to go home to him and Maya after this.”

Greyserman once again finished runner-up after holding or sharing the lead through three rounds, while Michael Thorbjornsen finished third.

For Schauffele, the Baycurrent Classic was more than a win — it was a reminder that resilience, family, and a touch of destiny can turn a tough year into a triumphant one.
