The Texas Tech Red Raiders had their offense rolling once again and beat the Kent State Golden Flashes 62-14 on Saturday at Jones AT&T Stadium in Lubbock.

It’s the second consecutive week the Red Raiders have put up 60-plus points after hitting the 67-point mark last week against Arkansas-Pine Bluff. Tech quarterback Behren Morton threw three touchdown passes – all in the first half – and defensive tackle Skyler Gill-Howard scored on a 55-yard pick-6 in the No. 24-ranked Texas Tech win.

Cameron Dickey added two rushing touchdowns and Reggie Virgil scored two receiving touchdowns as Tech led 48-0 at the half, one point better than last week’s halftime lead of 47-0 before a 67-7 final over Arkansas-Pine Bluff.

Morton left last week’s game in the second quarter with what was described as a hyperextended knee and was listed as questionable before Saturday’s game. He came out and went 18-of-26 for 258 yards before exiting the game at halftime. Dru DeShields threw a touchdown pass for the Golden Flashes and ran for another in the fourth quarter. Kent State’s loss on Saturday comes one week after breaking its 21-game losing streak with a 21-17 win over Merrimack last week.

The impressive Tech defense held Kent State to negative total yards before Gavin Garcia rattled off 38 yards on a screen pass early in the second quarter on the team’s sixth possession of the game. It was just two plays later that Gill-Howard caught a tipped DeShields pass and ran the other way untouched for a defensive score.

The Red Raiders scored on their first 14 possessions of the 2025 campaign, including all 11 against Arkansas-Pine Bluff and the first three on Saturday before Jack Burgess had his first punt of the season late in the first quarter.
