Southern Miss is finally finding an offensive identity, and the Golden Eagles are doing it the old-fashioned way.
Run the football. Control the clock. Make the opponent stop you.
That formula worked again Saturday as Southern Miss defeated Louisiana-Monroe 35-21 behind a dominant rushing performance from Steven Robinson and Jamarice Wilder.
The victory improved the Golden Eagles to 3-5 overall and 2-2 in Sun Belt play, giving Southern Miss consecutive wins following a frustrating five-game losing streak.

Robinson rushed for 151 yards on 21 carries, including a 33-yard touchdown run that opened the scoring in the second quarter.
Wilder added 104 yards on 15 attempts and scored twice, providing the perfect complement in a backfield that consistently punished ULM’s defense.
Together, they accounted for 255 rushing yards and three touchdowns.
Southern Miss finished with 249 net rushing yards as a team, recording its second consecutive performance above 200 yards.
And for a program searching for consistency, that production represents meaningful progress.
The Golden Eagles led 10-0 at halftime before ULM briefly threatened to seize momentum.
Warhawks quarterback Aidan Armenta connected with Marcellus Jackson on an 83-yard touchdown pass early in the third quarter, cutting Southern Miss’ lead to three.
But Robinson and Wilder helped the Golden Eagles regain control.
Wilder scored on a 21-yard run before quarterback Landry Lyddy found Grant Page for another touchdown.
A 39-yard Creighton Wilbanks field goal extended the advantage to 27-7 entering the fourth quarter.
ULM wasn’t finished.
The Warhawks scored twice in the final period, pulling within 27-21 with 6:47 remaining.
Southern Miss needed one more answer.
Wilder delivered it, breaking free for a late touchdown run to put the game out of reach.
The Golden Eagles’ defense also played an important role, recording five sacks and recovering two fumbles.
Landon Sylvie led the defense with 11 tackles, while Kobi Albert contributed a sack, forced fumble and pass breakup.

Lyddy finished with 130 passing yards and a touchdown without throwing an interception.
Southern Miss now prepares to host James Madison on Thursday, November 5.
The Golden Eagles still face an uphill climb toward bowl eligibility, but two consecutive victories have changed the conversation.
And if Robinson and Wilder continue producing at this level, Southern Miss could make things interesting down the stretch.
