Kevin Jennings and No. 19 SMU survived one of the strangest road games of Week 1, overcoming a major power outage, communication issues, four turnovers and repeated mistakes to beat Florida State 27-24 in Tallahassee.

On this Fan Stream Sports SMU Mustangs Football Update, Timm “IndyCarTim” Hamm breaks down why Jennings was the quarterback SMU absolutely needed in that environment, how Rhett Lashlee’s offense still produced 585 yards, and why the Mustangs’ biggest opponent may have been themselves.

SMU averaged 8.7 yards per play, converted eight of 14 third downs and got major production from multiple receivers despite a chaotic night. But turnovers, penalties and special-teams mistakes nearly gave the game away.

Topics include:
– Kevin Jennings’ command of the offense
– SMU’s explosive passing attack
– Rhett Lashlee’s fast start and tempo
– The Mustangs’ turnover problem
– Costly penalties and discipline concerns
– Why SMU’s ceiling still looks extremely high
– What the Florida State win means moving forward

SMU is 1-0, and if the Mustangs can clean up the self-inflicted mistakes, this team has the talent to make serious noise in the ACC.
