Texas adds catcher Logan O’Hoppe and reliever Chase Silseth in a bold deal with the Angels, signaling the Rangers aren’t done chasing October.

The Texas Rangers just kicked open the trade market.

Texas acquired catcher Logan O’Hoppe and right-handed reliever Chase Silseth from the Los Angeles Angels in exchange for 19-year-old infield prospect Angel Arredondo, giving the Rangers two intriguing additions for the stretch run.

Silseth is the player who could make the fastest impact. The 26-year-old owns a 2.72 ERA across 47 relief appearances this season, giving manager Bruce Bochy another legitimate weapon for the late innings.

That matters because the Rangers can’t afford to keep leaking games after the sixth inning. A division race this tight won’t be decided only by star power. It’ll be decided by which bullpen can survive August and September without turning every close game into a fire drill.

Silseth also brings long-term value. He’s under team control for four more seasons, meaning this isn’t just a rental designed to chase one playoff run. The Rangers are betting he can become part of the bullpen’s foundation well beyond 2026.

O’Hoppe gives Texas another layer of catching depth amid injuries to Danny Jansen and Kyle Higashioka. He’ll reportedly begin his Rangers tenure at Triple-A Round Rock, but that doesn’t make him an afterthought.

Catching depth disappears quickly during a pennant race. One injury, one slump or one brutal stretch behind the plate can force a team into desperation mode. O’Hoppe gives Texas another option before that happens.

The Rangers paid for the deal with Arredondo, a promising teenage infielder still developing in the lower levels of the minor leagues. He’s talented, but Texas clearly decided immediate major league help was worth more than waiting several years to see what he becomes.

To create space on the 40-man roster, the Rangers transferred Jansen and pitcher Jose Corniell to the 60-day injured list.

Now comes the bigger question: Is Chris Young finished?

Probably not.

Texas has already addressed two clear needs, but the Rangers could still use another impact bat and additional bullpen insurance before the trade deadline. With the AL West packed tightly and every contender looking for an edge, standing still isn’t really an option.

This deal doesn’t guarantee the Rangers another October run. It does, however, send a loud message.

Texas isn’t backing away from the fight.
