At TPC Sawgrass, where tournaments can flip in a heartbeat, Young stayed calm through the chaos and closed with a 4-under 68 to finish at 13-under, one shot ahead of Matt Fitzpatrick.

For years, Young’s story had been about almosts. Too many Sundays ended with close calls, near misses, and questions about whether he could finish the job. That script finally got torched at The Players Championship, where he turned one of golf’s most unforgiving closing stretches into the biggest moment of his career.

The shot everyone will remember came late. Fitzpatrick, who played steady golf most of the day, cracked at the worst possible time. His errant drive at 18 left him scrambling, and when his par putt missed, Young had his signature victory. The win adds to the momentum he built after breaking through for his first PGA Tour title in 2025 and further strengthens his status among the elite players in the game.

The collapse by Ludvig Åberg will draw plenty of attention after he entered Sunday with a three-shot lead and slid back to 9-under. But this day belonged to Young. He collected the trophy, the spotlight, and a $4.5 million payday — and maybe just changed the entire direction of his career.
