Ex-NFL QB Mark Sanchez Hospitalized, Then Arrested After Alleged Stabbing Incident in Indianapolis

Former NFL quarterback Mark Sanchez was hospitalized and arrested following a late-night incident in downtown Indianapolis, according to authorities.

On Friday night, Sanchez was reportedly stabbed during an altercation. But in a twist, the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) confirmed Saturday that Sanchez himself was arrested while at a local hospital.

The charges? Battery with injury, unlawful entry of a motor vehicle, and public intoxication — all misdemeanors.

The IMPD stated that Sanchez has not yet been officially booked, as he remains hospitalized. However, they confirmed that the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office will make the final call on whether formal charges will be filed. The department added that all parties involved have been identified, and no additional arrests are expected at this time — indicating that Sanchez is currently viewed as the sole aggressor.

There has been no public statement from Sanchez or his representatives.

According to police, the case now moves into the hands of prosecutors, who will review probable cause affidavits and evidence — including statements from witnesses and, possibly, surveillance footage from the area of the incident. While Sanchez is presumed innocent, the charges suggest that investigators believe this was not an act of self-defense and that the former quarterback may have attempted to enter someone’s vehicle during the confrontation.

Sanchez, 38, is best remembered for his time with the New York Jets, where he led the team to back-to-back AFC Championship appearances in 2009 and 2010. He also played for the Eagles, Cowboys, and Bears before transitioning into a broadcasting role with FOX.

Once hailed as a promising young QB, Sanchez has now joined a growing list of ex-NFL players whose post-career stories have taken a disturbing turn.

Stay tuned for updates as the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office determines whether to file charges. The probable cause affidavit and any available video could significantly shape what happens next in this ongoing legal saga.
