Dak Hits 30 Again as Cowboys Celebrate Christmas Win in DC

The Cowboys may be out of the playoff picture, but Christmas week still delivered a moment worth celebrating in Dallas. Dak Prescott turned in a milestone performance, throwing for 307 yards and two touchdowns as the Cowboys held off the Washington Commanders 30-23, capping a night that was far more about legacy than standings.

Prescott’s two scoring throws gave him 30 touchdown passes on the season, tying Tony Romo for the most seasons in franchise history with at least 30 passing touchdowns. In a year filled with ups, downs, injuries, and noise, Prescott once again etched his name alongside one of the greats to ever wear a star.

Dallas wasted no time flexing offensively.

The Cowboys scored touchdowns on their first three possessions, storming out to a 21–3 lead and looking fully in control. Prescott opened the game with a sharp 7-yard touchdown pass to Jake Ferguson, followed by a methodical 17-play drive that ended with a Javonte Williams rushing score.

The early onslaught was capped by an explosive 86-yard touchdown strike to KaVontae Turpin, one of the longest scoring passes of Prescott’s career.

Even as Washington clawed back, Prescott never lost command. He completed 19 of 37 passes, absorbed six sacks, and repeatedly delivered in high-leverage moments. Dallas converted all six of its fourth-down attempts, a testament to Prescott’s confidence and command of the offense.

Washington made things uncomfortable behind 39-year-old Josh Johnson, who stepped in due to injuries at quarterback. Big runs from Jacory Croskey-Merritt kept the Commanders within striking distance, trimming the Cowboys’ lead to a single score three different times. But every time momentum threatened to swing, Dallas answered.

That’s where Brandon Aubrey came in. The league’s most reliable leg drilled 52- and 51-yard field goals, pushing the lead back to double digits and sealing the win late.

The night wasn’t without concern. Javonte Williams exited with a shoulder injury after scoring, and Ferguson missed the second half with a calf issue. Still, the bigger picture belonged to Prescott.

At 7-8-1, the Cowboys aren’t playing for January football anymore—but Thursday night proved they’re still playing for pride, records, and belief. Prescott tying Romo’s franchise mark isn’t just a stat; it’s a reminder of sustained excellence at the most important position.

Dallas closes the season next week against the Giants, but this win—powered by Dak’s arm and legacy—gave Cowboys fans something rare in a lost season: a reason to smile.
