DJ Lagway is back on the market. After two uneven seasons with the Florida Gators, the former five-star quarterback and top-rated passer in the 2024 class is officially entering the transfer portal. And one school makes more sense than any other: Texas Tech.
Lagway, 6-foot-3 with a cannon arm, has always had the raw tools—just not the right setting. At Florida, he threw for over 4,000 yards but also racked up 23 interceptions to just 28 touchdowns. The pressure to carry an underperforming offense in Gainesville never gave him the room to develop.
That’s where Texas Tech enters the picture. With veteran QB Behren Morton on his way out, the Red Raiders are looking for their next playmaker. Lagway could be exactly that. Joey McGuire has already made it clear: the portal is not off-limits, and the goal is to compete now.
Unlike Florida, Texas Tech has the roster to support a developing QB. A strong O-line, a physical run game, and a defense that’s quietly turned heads in the Big 12 would give Lagway the tools—and the time—to turn raw ability into real production.
Tech recruited Lagway hard in high school. Now, with more experience and a point to prove, the timing might finally be right.
If the Red Raiders can land Lagway, don’t call it a rebuild—call it a reload. And with that arm in Lubbock, things could get dangerous in a hurry.
