Kyle Kirkwood took the IndyCar points lead with a breakthrough win in Arlington, beating Alex Palou and giving Andretti Global a huge day in Texas.

Kyle Kirkwood finally made Alex Palou crack.

At the Java House Grand Prix at Arlington, Kirkwood delivered the kind of drive that can change a season, muscling his No. 27 Andretti Global Honda to victory and grabbing the NTT INDYCAR SERIES points lead in the process. On a tight street course built around AT&T Stadium and Globe Life Field, Kirkwood survived pit-lane issues, late-race tension and the constant threat of Palou to seal his first win of the 2026 IndyCar season.

That is no small thing when the guy chasing you is the three-time defending champion who has four overall IndyCar titles.

Palou, driving the No. 10 Chip Ganassi Racing Honda, finished second and nearly turned another tricky race into another cold-blooded masterclass. Instead, this one belonged to Kirkwood, who stayed aggressive and refused to let the moment get swallowed by the occasion.

Andretti Global didn’t just win. It flexed.

The team put three cars in the top four, turning Arlington into a statement weekend. Will Power, now driving the No. 26 TWG AI Honda, came home third and grabbed his first podium with his new team after spending 16 full-time seasons with Team Penske. Marcus Ericsson, who earned the first pole of his IndyCar career on Saturday, backed it up with a fourth-place finish in the No. 28 Honda.

That is a banner day by any standard.

Pato O’Ward rounded out the top five in the No. 5 Arrow McLaren Chevrolet, making him the highest-finishing Chevrolet driver on the 14-turn, 2.73-mile Arlington circuit.

The biggest takeaway is simple: Kirkwood didn’t just win a race, he changed the tone of the championship fight.

For years, Palou has made IndyCar feel like a locked vault. On Sunday in Arlington, Kirkwood kicked the door open.
