Rain has scrambled INDYCAR’s Milwaukee weekend, leaving Pato O’Ward leading a suspended race and Alex Palou on pole for a packed Sunday at the Mile.

The INDYCAR Milwaukee Mile doubleheader has turned into one of the strangest race weekends of the 2026 season, and Sunday could become an endurance test for drivers, teams and fans alike.

Saturday’s Snap-on Makers and Fixers 250 was stopped by rain after 90 of 250 laps, with Pato O’Ward leading the field in the No. 5 Arrow McLaren Chevrolet. INDYCAR initially planned to resume that race Sunday morning, but more rain and track-drying delays forced officials to reshuffle the schedule again.

Now the unfinished race won’t resume until approximately 6 p.m. ET Sunday on FS1.

That means INDYCAR will actually run the regularly scheduled second Milwaukee race first.

The Snap-on Milwaukee Mile 250 remains set for 1 p.m. ET on FOX, with reigning four-time series champion Alex Palou starting from the pole in the No. 10 Chip Ganassi Racing Honda. The INDY NXT race is scheduled for 11 a.m. ET on FS1 before the NTT INDYCAR SERIES takes center stage.

For O’Ward, the delayed first race creates an unusual challenge. He’ll have to compete in a full 250-lap event Sunday afternoon before climbing back into the car later in the day to defend the lead he established Saturday.

When Race 1 was stopped, O’Ward led Felix Rosenqvist, Alexander Rossi, Josef Newgarden, Christian Lundgaard and Kyle Kirkwood. Only 90 laps had been completed, leaving 160 scheduled laps still on the table.

The Milwaukee Mile itself adds another wrinkle. The historic oval measures 1.015 miles with only nine degrees of banking, making tire management, traffic and car balance especially important over long green-flag runs.

And the weekend already contained some qualifying drama.

Scott McLaughlin posted the fastest qualifying lap for Saturday’s race at 165.536 mph, but an unapproved engine change triggered a nine-position grid penalty. That helped place O’Ward at the front when Race 1 began.

Now Milwaukee has something far more chaotic than a conventional doubleheader.

Teams could face hundreds of racing laps spread across two events in a matter of hours, with recovery time measured in minutes instead of days.

For Palou, Sunday offers another opportunity to strengthen his grip on the championship.

For O’Ward, it’s a chance to turn a rain delay into a massive day.

And for INDYCAR fans, Milwaukee just became appointment television from lunch through sunset.
