CLEVELAND — Three elimination games. Three victories. One unforgettable comeback.

The Cleveland Guardians punched their ticket to the American League Championship Series Saturday night, beating the Chicago White Sox 2–0 at Progressive Field to finish a stunning rally from a 2–0 deficit in the ALDS.

José Ramírez supplied the decisive swing, Gavin Williams overwhelmed Chicago’s lineup, and Cleveland turned a series that began with two home losses into a celebration in front of its own fans.

The Guardians won the best-of-five series 3–2 and will face the Tampa Bay Rays in the ALCS.

Ramírez Delivers, Williams Dominates

Ramírez broke a scoreless tie in the fourth inning with a two-run home run off White Sox starter Sean Burke. It was all the offense Cleveland needed, and another defining moment for the third baseman during the Guardians’ three-game surge.

Williams made that lead stand up with 12 strikeouts over 5⅔ scoreless innings. He kept Chicago hitless until the sixth, delivering the kind of performance Cleveland needed after he had also recorded the final three outs of Thursday’s Game 4 victory.

The White Sox finally threatened in the sixth, loading the bases before Erik Sabrowski entered and struck out Munetaka Murakami to end the inning. Chicago never found the breakthrough.

Cleveland’s pitching staff finished with 21 strikeouts, leaving the White Sox with just six outs on balls put in play. For a winner-take-all game, the Guardians’ ability to keep Chicago from making contact was decisive.

How Cleveland Flipped The Series

The turnaround began after Chicago won the first two games in Cleveland, 3–0 and 4–3.

With its season hanging by a thread, Cleveland responded with a 9–3 victory in Game 3 in Chicago. Jo Adell’s bases-clearing triple helped ignite an offense that had struggled through the opening two games.

The Guardians followed with a 9–5 win in Game 4. Ramírez and Patrick Bailey homered, and a six-run sixth inning forced the deciding game back to Cleveland.

Before that return home, Ramírez anticipated the atmosphere: “I think it’s going to be crazy. I mean, incredible energy,” he said through an interpreter.

Saturday delivered. The Guardians completed the comeback with their best pitching performance of the series and another timely swing from their star.

Cleveland’s season survives. The next stop is the ALCS.
