The NFL and NFLPA slapped the New York Giants with a $200,000 fine after a joint review found the club violated league concussion-tent rules during quarterback Jaxson Dart’s Week 6 evaluation against the Philadelphia Eagles on October 9.

Head coach Brian Daboll was fined $100,000 and running back Cam Skattebo $15,000 for conduct detrimental to the league.

According to the jointly bargained concussion protocol, all game-day evaluations must occur in the blue medical tent or locker room, with only essential medical personnel present—typically the club physician, an athletic trainer, and the sideline Unaffiliated Neurotrauma Consultant.

The review concluded the Giants crossed that line when Daboll and Skattebo entered the tent and spoke with Dart before the exam was complete, creating the perception of interference.

Crucially, investigators determined the medical team and independent providers otherwise followed every required step and that the visit by Daboll and Skattebo had no actual impact on Dart’s exam or the care he received. Still, the league and union deemed the intrusion inconsistent with the protocol and, therefore, a violation.

The Giants have already taken remedial steps, cooperating fully with the review, providing additional training to staff and players on proper tent procedures, and tightening access so only permitted individuals can enter during concussion evaluations.

The process worked medically, but the optics and the rulebook matter.

The message from the NFL and NFLPA is unmistakable. The concussion tent is a no-go zone for anyone not directly involved in care, and breaches will cost teams and individuals heavily.
