Shilo Sanders drew criticism after directing a sexist remark at Browns reporter Mary Kay Cabot over her quarterback opinion.

Shilo Sanders is facing backlash after taking aim at Cleveland Browns reporter Mary Kay Cabot with a sexist comment during an online disagreement about the team’s quarterback situation.

The exchange began after Cabot said the Browns would be better off starting Deshaun Watson instead of Shedeur Sanders, who started seven games as a rookie in 2025. Shilo, defending his brother, responded on Instagram by telling Cabot to “go make a sandwich,” a remark quickly criticized as misogynistic.

Cabot, one of the most respected football reporters in Cleveland and the 2025 Bill Nunn Memorial Award winner, didn’t fire back with the same energy. During a local radio appearance Thursday, she pointed instead to the larger issue of women working in football media.

Cabot said she’s proud that her career has helped other women and girls feel like they belong in the sport. Her message was clear: criticism comes with the job, but outdated gender insults shouldn’t.

Shilo later addressed the situation on Twitch, saying his issue wasn’t with Cabot being a woman but with what he believes is opinion-based reporting. He also suggested Cabot has been unfair to Shedeur.

Still, the original comment has become the story.

The Browns’ quarterback debate was already going to be loud, especially with Watson and Shedeur Sanders both drawing strong opinions. But Shilo’s response shifted the spotlight away from football and onto how women in sports media are treated when they offer analysis.

Cabot has spent years covering the NFL and Browns, and her opinion on Cleveland’s quarterback competition is part of the job. Shilo may disagree with her take, but the backlash shows many fans and media members believe the response crossed a line.
