It’s preseason hockey time once again in the NHL and in North Texas as the Dallas Stars kick off their 2025-26 preseason against the St. Louis Blues at the American Airlines Center in Dallas.
As is usually the case in the preseason, especially early, it’s likely that Dallas and St. Louis both will feature prospects in the game as the evaluation process begins for new (again) Stars coach Glen Gulutzan, who begins his second stint with the club.
Gulutzan has said he wants to stress physical play this season, so he’ll no doubt be paying close attention to the young players on the ice on Saturday. Dallas has been considered “soft” by some analysts, and it’s widely considered the reason they’ve lost in the conference finals the past three seasons after winning 47, 52 and 50 games in the regular season.
The new Stars boss has also said he wants a bigger presence in front of the net from every Dallas line.
The Stars and Blues faced each other in three training camp practices and will now take the ice against each other, and as former Stars coach and current Blues boss, Jim Montgomery said, “You know what the drill is.”
“Once you get into game action, it’s a big difference,” Montgomery said. “Practice is set up, you know what the drill is, you know what the purpose is. And we expect them to execute. If they’re not executing what we’re giving them, that’s a real fire alarm for us. But the in-games, now we see instincts, and now we see the guys that can make plays offensively, guys that are getting what we want in the structure without the puck.”
