Cowboys Signing Jadeveon Clowney as Reported by Jerry Jones Himself

The Dallas Cowboys are 1-1 on the young season, but it’s no thanks to their pass rush efforts. Dallas had just one sack of Jalen Hurts in the opening loss to the Eagles in Week 1, then got to Russell Wilson three times in Sunday’s epic 40-37 overtime win. But Wilson also threw for 450 yards on the day.

After the game, Cowboys owner and general manager, Jerry Jones, said that the team has signed veteran pass rusher Jadeveon Clowney and the deal is expected to be finalized and officially announced on Monday.

“He has been an outstanding player, and he’ll add some real depth,” Jones said after Dallas’ 40-37 overtime win over the Giants. “And he’s very credible and he’ll help us. It’s the kind of thing that we will continue to do. It’s a lot of the reason we handle our roster the way that we have it, so we can do these kinds of things.”

The 32-year-old Clowney visited The Star last week and anticipated joining his seventh team since joining the Houston Texans as the No. 1 overall pick in 2014.

Jones and the Cowboys famously traded away star pass rusher Micah Parsons to the Green Bay Packers just before the regular season started amid a contract dispute that turned public and ugly. Dallas got two first-round draft picks and star defensive tackle Kenny Clark in exchange. Through two games with his new team, Parsons has posted just 1.5 sacks while dealing with a back injury.

Clowney is a three-time Pro Bowler and registered 5.5 sacks last year with the Carolina Panthers before being released by them on May 8. Across 11 seasons, he’s tallied 58 sacks, 139 QB hits, 409 total tackles and 15 forced fumbles.
