Cowboys Cut Bait on Trevon Diggs in Stunning Week 18 Waiver Move

Trevon Diggs won’t be suiting up for the Dallas Cowboys in Week 18—because the Cowboys just made one of the most shocking roster decisions of the season, placing the veteran cornerback on waivers Tuesday.

Diggs can be claimed by another team, but any waiver claim comes with a financial fork in the road: he still has three years left on his deal, and while there’s no guaranteed money remaining, the contract includes a $14.5 million salary in 2026 and a cap hit north of $18.44 million—a price tag that will scare off some teams and dare others to take the plunge.

If he goes unclaimed, Diggs becomes a free agent immediately and wouldn’t have to wait until March to sign elsewhere—meaning a late-season pickup is very much on the table.

The move lands with extra thud because Diggs’ 2025 season has been a stop-and-start grind. He played in the first six games before landing on injured reserve, dealing with a concussion and continuing to work back from knee issues that limited him over the past two seasons. He was activated from IR late in the year and returned to action in the final stretch.

Off the field, the timing is also combustible. This news arrives shortly after reports that Diggs’ brother, Patriots wideout Stefon Diggs, is facing charges that include felony strangulation/suffocation and misdemeanor assault and battery, while remaining on New England’s active roster for now.

For Dallas, waiving Diggs this late isn’t just a roster shuffle—it’s a loud signal about where the organization believes things are headed at corner and how aggressively it’s willing to reset before the offseason even arrives.
