Cooper Flagg returned to the Dallas Mavericks’ lineup Monday night and helped deliver a needed road victory.
Flagg finished with 29 points and 11 assists as Dallas defeated the Miami Heat 113-109 at Kaseya Center, improving to 2-2 while keeping Miami winless through four games.
After sitting out Saturday’s loss to San Antonio with a left shoulder sprain, Flagg provided the scoring and playmaking Dallas needed. His return, along with Kyrie Irving’s following a night off for knee injury management, restored two central pieces of the Mavericks’ offense.

Dallas still had to work through a competitive game. Miami led 27-23 after the opening quarter before the Mavericks responded with a 30-point second period to take a 53-52 halftime advantage.
The Heat reclaimed the lead during the third quarter and entered the fourth ahead 84-83. This time, Dallas finished stronger, outscoring Miami 30-25 over the final 12 minutes to secure the victory.
P.J. Washington contributed 20 points and nine rebounds, while Irving scored 18. Walter Clayton Jr. supplied an efficient boost off the bench, producing 15 points on 6-of-7 shooting. Flagg also collected six rebounds, four steals and two blocks.
Giannis Antetokounmpo paced Miami with 29 points, 15 rebounds and 11 assists. Davion Mitchell added 21 points, but the Heat could not turn those performances into their first victory.

For Dallas, the result offered an encouraging response after Saturday’s 122-106 home loss to the Spurs. The Mavericks found enough offense to overcome a narrow fourth-quarter deficit and leave Miami with their second road win.

The Mavericks return to American Airlines Center on Wednesday, Oct. 28, to face the Oklahoma City Thunder. Tipoff is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. CT.
Dallas’ priorities will be limiting turnovers, finishing defensive possessions with rebounds and maintaining its execution late in the game. Flagg’s ability to create opportunities for teammates gives the Mavericks an encouraging foundation, but consistent contributions around him will remain essential against Oklahoma City.
